The bed floor on my truck is rotten through or very thin through out most of the bed. My question is can I remove the whole bed floor. I searched and could not find a topic on removing the whole floor or would I be better just cutting everything out except a thing strip around the edge to use to mount the wooden bed.I would like to go back with a wood floor bed. I have all the wood bed parts from a salvaged '69 long bed Chevy. Any ideas please.

well hell if you have the wood bed parts might as well cut the floor of the bed out and mount it up if you can get it to fit right!

dont forget about the cross braces under the floor panel . if you cleen up the bed real good you well be able to see the spot welds that hold the floor to the cross braces . take a quarter inch or 5 sixteenths drill and drill through , then cut the floor about 1 inch from the edges and remember not to cut the cross braces as you do this . then youll have something to work with . I would suggest 18 gage cold rolled 4x8 sheet of steal , cut to size and drill holes to replace the spot welds that you took out and the pertect the new stell with por 15 rust paint [ about 45$ a quart worth every penny ] both sides . oh yes follow the directions on the can of por 15 and make sure you use the prep ready before you paint the new steal or it well not hold . but if you follow the directions youll end up with a bed that well be around when you are long gone .

are the cross braces on the bed bad? if not i would not take them out seens as they are what hold the sides and front of the bed on . if you leave the cross braces in you should be able to srew the boards to them

So the best bet will be to clean off the bed and then drill out the spot welds. Are the sides of the bed floor are spot welded or are they held by some caulk lie material ?

no the caulking is to seal it up so road grim dosnt get in the bed . the bed floor is broke over and welded to the inner side panels as well as the wheel well so if you keep a half an inch or 1 inch away from the sides and wheel well , you wont have much trouble fitting new steel in place .
