I just bought a 1976 chevy Luv this last weekend, and boy does she run! But... The brakes are tight, like really tight, however if I ease in on em real slow-like, after a second or two they soften and grab just like any other car.
Also the parking brake works but I gotta pull it back real far for it to be effective, I know it prolly shouldnt be that way.

Any suggestions?? :D

Welcome to the site Tyler.

The parking brake is due to poor adjustment on the rears, (or low lining) if I were you I would at least inspect the linings on a new purchase. For grabbing brakes, could be a few factors, could be a stuck caliper or wheel cylinder, broken springs, rust, etc. I would suggest at least an inspection and go from there. Also consider those brake hoses are old enough to vote.. Rubber does not last forever. Anytime I buy/build a driver I always replace brake hoses when they are that old, just because they are cheap insurance. This is of course along with a mass brake overhaul on all wheels and true the drums/rotors. I generaly don't mess around when it comes to brakes, cause one day I just might need em! :)

Yeah, I agree. I replaced the brake hoses on my 77 some time in the early in the 90's, and again 2 years ago.
