its all in surface area the bigger the piston the more volume but takes more leg to make it work (or a booster) the smaller bore has more pressure but less volume per stroke.
Confused yet? When i first built my truck as well as several others i adapted a Pinto master cyl (Manuel brakes) for the brakes (small bore) and had plenty of brake pressure and volume per stroke .
Something to remember is small bore/big piston = less pedal pressure big bore/small piston = more pedal pressure
