I went to pull-a-part yesterday and bought a 3-speed thinking that it was a 4-speed. Should I keep the 3-speed or just find a 4-speed.Its for the V-8.

Are you talking about an automatic trans?

ditch it and get a T56 6-speed, run deep gears (at least 4.11) because 6th is .56:1 ratio. u can run deep gears AND get decent gas mileage

I am assuming that this six speed tranny is a manual. Who makes the T56 and approximately what price range are they?

Its a muncie 3-speed, if I do use this Im thinking about running a 3.50 gear ratio in the rear end. This transmission is a stick-shift.

Its made by Borg Warner (maker of the T5 in older camaros and mustangs.

T56 is a factory manual tranny for camaros and vettes with LT1 or LS1

I'm sorry, the $400 figure is what it would probably go for from a private party with a classified ad.

thats a smokin' deal... That could be a nice money maker for you... You go down and pull them and pay $60 each, then put it in the classified ads for 400-600 and... MO MONEY MO MONEY for the LUV truck.

The same thing goes for junkyard tranny's here in Vegas. You just can't find them for some reason. Turbo 350's are a dime a dozen here though. I picked one up, had it checked out at a tranny shop, and found out it was in great shape AND has a B&M shift kit installed in it. Total cost with inspection was $150. If anyone out there has a T5 or T56 tranny for a good price let me know. I would like to see what shipping is and maybe work out a deal. Heck, if you can get a good one for $60 or so, I would be willing to give you an extra $100 just to pull it for me. Thats a fair deal I think??? Since I am getting that LS-1 engine I am on the prowl for a good 5 or 6 speed tranny.....

From what I understand about these transmissions, they don't have a driveshaft. They just link to the rear end. I don't know if that's changeable or not....

Get a richmond 6 speed. :P

I'm sorry, I f'd up. the 97-later (C5)vette has the trans mounted in the back and bolts up directly to the rear end for better weight distribution. I believe there is still a driveshaft going from the clutch in front to the trans in the back though. The conventional T56 is in the 1993-2002 camaro and 1991-1996 LT1 corvette. The 97-present C5 vette trans prolly would work but you would have to swap the whole trans/IRS, driveshaft, clutch assembly etc. into the truck too.
