Now that i am getting things back together and up and running how about my front end. Since I did the coil over conversion I noticed my passenger side tire is toed out very bad but my driver side is not bad at all, just a little. I am not sure there is enough adjustment in the rod in front to pull it in. Right now there is an equal amount of threads on both sides of the long rod in the middle.
Also will putting shims in the back side of the upper control arm push the tire in in the front or do they need to both have the same. Dought if th etruck will go down the road without wanting to pull to the right with the bad toe out.
Any suggestions.

Brakes are about done, just have to run a new line to the passenger side.

Guess no one knows. Has to go to the alignment shop soon anyway. Fired her up last night again. Really loud but sounds good. Hope she holds together. :ebiggrin

I haven't replied, as I couldn't figure out how the coilover swap affected the toe in. 8O But shimming the top out will bring the tire in at the top...

Thats what i htought the shimming only changed was the vertical line on the tire and wouldn't affect toe in. Guess I will try and only put shims in the back of the control; arm and none in the front and see if it changes any. i can't see were putting in the coils would have affected the toe in and ot at all since i didn't bother the link in the front to each tires. Guess i will also unhook hook the rod end and screw on all the way in and outiit backon and then do the driver side. Do they make newer style adjustable tie rod end for these truck. just a thought.
thanks.

The shims will effect the toe. Start with camber then caster then toe.

To many shims in the back will move you caster to far forward and make driving real tuff (Think of it as driving real fast in reverse)

Coil over shocks should have no affect on alignment. Caster is the line through the center of the ball joints. If the top is farther back, then it will make the car want to run straighter. For drag racing, the faster the car the more you want it back, within reason. No more than 5*. Look at pictures of the older dragsters with straight axles, they were like 15* and real bitch to turn at speed, went very straight. Set your camber, vertical line of tire, just slightly out at the top 1/2 to 1*, this will help a little with bump steer at launch. Last set toe at 1/16 in for least rolling resistance. Then recheck everything to be sure nothing has moved.

I understand all the camber and castor stuff but my concern is that my passenger side toe out for some reason after putting on the coils is way out compared to the driver side. I just don't know if there is enough adjustment in the link on the front to pull it in.
I am going to take all the shims out on the upper arm on the front side and leave the 3 in the back side and see if it pulls the tire back in. That is the only thing I didn't put back together the same as I didn't write down how many shims were where when I took the arms off. I have both sides shimmed exactly the same. I would assume even changing shims on the driver side could affect the opposite side.
I have everything wired up and want to take it and get my tv cable adjusted at the tranny shop but it needs to be drivable for them to check it once set. am afraid it can't be handle the way it is setting now.
I am so close to being able to take it down the road after bolting the fenders back on. i assume then that shims will affect everything on the each side all together, toe camber and castor. I just need both wheels close to get it to the alignment shop

Ah hah! You could have the same number of shims, but they can be of different thickness, due to the previous alignment. As you didn't mark them, probably the problem. Since the alignment shop is probably going to have reshim, (most likely) I'd just trailer it to them and let them do it...
