Hi guys how ya doing? Well my tubbing project is about done, now its time for paint, The body work is done, I would like to use a basecoat, clearcoat because I was told this is the easyest way to go for first time painter, what do you think? And then another painter told me that I had to strip it first for this kind of paint. I need to know what kind of primer and paint works togather.

Use the same brand and type of paint for the whole job. What is left of the old paint job and how much is bare metal? Just a guess is fine.

Use a good epoxy primer on well sanded old paint. Use etch primer on all the bare metal then the epoxy primer over it. The etch primer makes it adhere to the metal better. Clear coat base coat is easier to fix mistakes quick like runs etc. Similar to the old lacquer type but much better.
Good luck and take your time.

There is a lot of different opinions on etch primer paint now days. Some say use etch primer first, others say just use epoxy primer. Etch primer makes sence to me, but I have been wrong on stuff too. Epoxy primer is good stuff to use. You can use OSPHO over the bare metal first (Orthophosphoric acid). You can get OSPHRO at hadware stores and parts stores that sell it paint too. I like to use it. Read and follow your paint instructions that come with all paint you use. Bondo work is suggested after primer now days. A lot Bondo has talc in it, which attracts and absorbs water. Do any Metal work first. Make sure you have the proper breathing protection when you paint.!!!!!!!

I am not going to get into which is the better way to paint.

BC/CC is better, but single stage works ok. Almost All factory paint is done bc/cc now days.

If you only want to spend about 50 bucks go to www.rollyourcar.com, this is the most awesome idea in the history of awesome ideas for cheapness.

We do have a member that did that. He was happy with it. It does take a lot of work and time. Look for the $50 paint job. A huge post on a Dodge site in the post here.
