 Post subject: Hood vent
PostPosted: Wed Apr 09, 2003 2:44 pm
Until I can get a cowl hood, would it work to raise the windshield end of the hood to vent the engine compartment? I'm thinking of raising the snubbers that are at each corner, then using a u-bolt to reach down to the stock hood latch. What do you think?

Also, how do you latch a cowl-vent hood, being as how the stock hood latch is in the middle of the vent?

Thanks for the help.

John

Did it with V-8 Vegas many years ago.We put short fuel line hose pieces over the hood pins and adjusted the pins where it would latch, keeping the hood open a little. This lets a bunch of heat out.

I have always thought that the heat problems with a V8 luv, was because of air flow. The V8 fills up the engine compartment, and the air has no way to escape, so the radiator has no way for fresh cool air to get through. That was my reason for buying the L88 hood. There is a big opening there for air to escape. Just adding a hood scoop to a stock hood, will not move enough air. I had to purchase hood pins to hold down the hood, but I have not installed them yet. Should be easy though.

Are you guys using the rubber enginewell skirting? I had underhood heat problems until i removed them. The hood was hot to the touch because my radiator was plugged up. Pulled the rubber out and the hood was cooler with a hot motor. Fixed the radiator and all is well.

I did the extra big U bar and lifted snubbers and that worked great. got a cheap $75 glass 4/34" cowl scoop from Ulimited for it now tho.
