I just purchased a new fuse block from Painless and will be installing it and rewiring the truck in a week or so while my wifes on vacation. I would like to mount the block under the glove box and run all the wires under the truck to hide them as much as possible. Anyone done this? Can you provide any advice? This will be my first major wiring job.

yeah I be doin this.
what are you planning on re-wiring?
are you going to do the whole truck or just the parts that need to be upgraded?

the things I left alone were as follows:
tailights
blinkers
heater/blower motor
windshield wiper motor

the things I created/ added on to are as follows:
ignition
nitrous
headlights
fuel pump
electric fan
all gauges
fuel sender from cell

all the wiring is under the dash with the exception of the relays, original fuse box, junction box from a lt-1 camaro and whatever else is in the engine compartment that needs power.

I have pictures on my website that you can check out. if you have any more questions ask on here or feel free to email me rstewart@sofab.com

Hope this was of some help to you! :D

Im rewiring everything. Front to back, inside and out. Only exception will be the dome light as I dont feel like fishing a new wire up through the pillar and headliner. The engine and light harnesses have splices and dead ends all over. Good example would be a wire spliced from the engine harness that runs along the firewall to the right wheelwell and is twisted to another wire that I think runs to the starter( the connection is completely bare, no electrical tape or connector). Not being the person who made all those addons and cuts, I dont have a clue why some of them were made. So I feel its better to err on the side of caution. I ll just take my time and do it up right. Thanks for the suggstions. Yours looks nice.

before you decide to rewire it all, please do this.
pull the entire wiring harness out of the truck and lay it in the floor the way it was in the truck.
cut off or pull the tape around it so you can see all the wires.
if you are planning on keeping the heater and windshield wiper motor and drive it on the street there really isn't any reason to rewire that stuff, because it prolly isn't hurt or spliced into.
this is exactly what I did. I removed what I didn't want or I was going to replace and all the lengths were correct and the plugs were still where they are posta be.
all there was after that is draw a schematic and start wiring what I wanted! :D
I hope this helps
Thanks for the compliment.

I just wanted to add that re-wiring those connectors is a pain in the butt......
the only part of the wiring I didn't remove went to the rear of the truck. I re-routed it, but that is all.

Funny that you mentioned the heater and wiper motor as I was just looking at those two and thinking the same thing. Both look good as far as their wires go.

I rewired my whole truck with a painlees kit as well. And i went ahead and rewired everything and it was a royal pain in the ass trying to match up the factory wiring to the new harness. But at least now i know the entire wiring setup on the truck inside and out. this kit was one of my better upgrades and i'm happy with it.

I finaly got the entire harness out of the truck. Wow theres alot of wires in there. 8O I spent about three hours disconnecting and marking everthing as I took it out. I realy dont see this being that tough as long as I take it slow.

I noticed that there was an excessive amount of wires used for the charging system going to here and from there over to that.....and also there are wires for air conditioning on non-air trucks.....which makes since, but those are wires that can be canned.
make yourself a good wiring diagram BEFORE you start re-wiring. it goes ALOT quicker and you don't sit there scratching yer head or making mistakes.
good luck!
