It the near future I want to remove my bed and front end. One of the problems will be is I wont have anyone close to me that can help me with removing the bed. My little bed tie downs are gone. I do have a large A frame hoist that I could use. I do know that there was a metal frame that was made to pull off full size pickup beds years ago.

I wonder if I can put something together out of wood. I wont have my welder setup when I first move. So wood might work.
My truck is not here, but are the inner finders removable on the front end ? For some reason I think years ago I couldn't or didn't need to remove them.

I want to do a $50 paint job too. But I would need to remove the bed to get the front of the bed and the back of the cab.
Plus it will be easier to do some fab work with the front off and the bed off.

The inner fenders are part of the cabin.

You could 'fold' up some hooks out of suitable guage steel plate and use them to hook under the rail around the top of the bed. They would have to be strong enough that the weight will not pull them back straight. I would make them longer than 6" to spread the load/stress they will put on the bed.

I can not rememeber how i lifted mine off any more, i used a crane, every time since has been with manpower. I think it was with the external tie downs.

At the rear you could use the tailgate mounting bolts holes as lift points.
Or if its a late model bed remove the taillights and make up some metal tabs to pickup the two bolt holes on each side.
For the front you could just tie it to the top of the hoop, its double reinforced down on the front wall of the bed. So privided you have enough lift height this would work. I would not do it this way if there is bad rust in the leading edge of the floor, you would defrom the bed for sure.
Or you could make up a bracket with some holes in it and use some self drilling tek screws and mount it into that reinforced base part of the front hoop.

You could just 'blow' some paint in between the bed and the cab.
How good of a paint job is this $50 paint job going to be??? As far as i am aware you couldnt buy the primer and paint to do a car for under $200 unless you were going for miss tinted house paint from the local hardware store.

PapaG look at the pics i took of the stepside bed hanging in the air, i took straps (2 for the front) and ran them from the back side of the rails that are for the bed mounts and hooked them together then brought them to the front and on the rear as you can see in one of the pics is a hole in the rear plate under the tailgate, i hooked two straps on the back side and ran them as in the pic.
