What kind of steel did all of you out there use when you built your custom frame? I was thinking about 3" by 4" 1/4" gauge tube steel.

The best kind of stock to use would be cold drawn seamless steel. Much more sturdy than anything else. This is the same materials that NASCAR chassis builders use. More expensive than steel with welded seam, but, much stronger.

Are the sizes I listed appropriate? Do I need a smaller tube or gauge?

If its in the budget, go with a moly frame. Lighter, stronger.
