I'm pulling out the "sealed beam" headlights and replacing them with housings that take the 9003 (or H4) Halogen lamps like the newer cars use. The project much better and there are a variety of high output lamps you can install. It's a much better system all around.

I personally don't think that these pictures do the lights justice, but there is a huge difference. I didn't go with 12AWG wiring like most do, as I think that it is a little overkill (just my opinion).

Here is where I put the relays after some worry about the hood hitting the top pin (obviously it didn't).

Here are the before shots. They are pretty accurate.

Unfortunately, I didn't take a light spread shot. I forgot, but it was dim and very yellow in color.

Here are the after shots.

Well, a day and $110, and this is what I got. You can decide for yourself, but, in person, the lights rock. As for being worth the money, I definitely think it is (again, the pics don't do the lights any form of justice). Maybe with some PIAA bulbs in there, it would be even better...  8)

I hope you like.

Jon

You dont have to sell me on the differance! I know your happy with the new setup. Glad to see that it worked out well for you. The idea of getting aux driving lights seems rather dumb after doing the upgrade. Now i have a toggle switch under the dash thats not being used but i dont care at this point.
But you must keep in mind that these newer composite headlight housings are not D.O.T. approved and will not be able to be adjusted by a machine. So some states will not pass them in a headlight test.

I read this at the sales sight. After I have them in, however, I still have the adjustment screws on the sides. I'm curious as to why they wouldn't be adjustable (I haven't tried, but I thought about it)...

D.O.T.approved headlights have 3 little nubs on the face of the lens. When adjusting by machine, these nubs are for setting the testing unit to the headlight. And from that they adjust the beam to point correctly. The composite shells do not have these nubs and on that they will not pass an inspection. Some states require the use of a machine to align the headlights. The easiest option is to reinstall the standard seal beams for testing and reinstall the composite shells after. The H4 bulbs share the same connector as stock so it's a direct swap.
