Hey, do you have to max out the tortion bars to get the trooper a-arms underneath it and get the suspension lift?
I have a 80' 4x4 that i wan't to get about a 3-5" lift out of, i know i can shackle up the back, get re arched springs, flip the axle, block it up or just about anything else, but i can't find out how to lift the front! And then when i read this i was so happy!
So a little info would help so much.
Also, if anyone knows where to fidn the front spindle lock washers, i would love that because i can't find them anywhere.

I'm actually in the middle of this swap now, I'll let you know how it goes Jacob. Currently I am doing it without the ball joint spacers, just flipping the ball joint.

That would be so nice because i would really like to stay away from a SAS right now because it is what i usually drive everywhere, school, work, and i play with it. And this would just make my day.

Fitting Trooper upper arms with a flipped b joint and spacer will give you more downward travel, useing a shorter bumpstop will also increase the travel. You will have to re index the torsion bar and wind it to get max lift. Remember that once you have done all above, your cv angles are now extreme and their lifespan will be shorter, the next step is to do a diff drop.

For those of you that have put on the Trooper arm with the flipped ball joint (and maybe used shackels for the rear), how much of lift did you get?

I only got a few inches in the front, whereas in the back when I did a spring over I got about 8 inches. Im gonna need to crank the torsion bars a little, and maybe take out a spring in the rear.

so if im reading this correct, 84-86 trooper upper control arms will only work on the 4x4 luvs and not the 2wd?

3 inches at least. Likewise 3 inches of lift. Tore em off though, doing a SAS, so if anyone wants em, I've got em up for sale.

so,

a short recap of the procedure

Find some trooper upper control arms
Also, find some ball joints from the same year trooper that the donor arms come from

when installing the ball joints, install from the underside of the control arm rather than from the top like normal

then put everything back together and get an alignment right?

Correct. Be sure to use new high tensile bolts and locking nuts when installing b/joints.

Okay so I'm confused do you have to crank the t bars to get the lift from this swap or does the arms itself lift it? I don't wanna crank the t bars much for the fact of a crappy ride I'd like to still have a descent ride

Swapping out the arms alone will not give you lift, they will however give you more downward suspension travel. Combine this with a shorter bump stop you will get even more travel. You can crank the t bars for lift without sacrificing ride quality by reindexing your t bars.

You could but there is nothing to be gained

Re indexing is removing the t bar and rotating it in the splines ( there are some good write ups out there, Google is your friend)
