Anyone put the running gear including a diesel motor into a S-10?
Looks like that may be the best way out on the one I bough.
It is going to have to have body work. and the frame has rust on it also. Way to cold to craw under and check how bad the frame rust is. The truck has been sitting from sept 03.
If its not going to be a lot more trouble. i may just look for an Extended cab truck to put everything from this on in. (S-10 or what ever would be an easy swap)
Any help ideals would be of great help. Or if you have done this its even better.
Will try to get pictures of the 1982 luv diesel 4x4 on here as soon as I get over this stomach virus.

Pete,

The S-10's were actually offered with this motor in the early years. They had their own special bell housing that allowed Chevy (& GMC) to use a T5 transmission rather than the Isuzu transmission. Those bell housings are RARE, but they pop up occasionally. There was an S10 motor AND bell housing on eBay a few weeks ago. It didn't sell, and one of the IsuzuPup forum members contacted the seller and got him to split the bell housing and sell it off-eBay. Then he put the motor alone on eBay the 2nd time around. The guy who bought the bell housing was actually putting it into a Rodeo and wanted to use a stronger transmission than the one that came with the P'up (smart move!). There were other differences in the engine on the S-10. It had its own water pump, so Chevy could keep their same radiator (the outlet on the original Isuzu water pump pointed the wrong direction). Chevy also used a separate vacuum pump, rather than the one mounted on the alternator as used in the LUV/P'up diesels. There may have been other differences, but all were minor.

So, to answer your question -- yes, it can go into the S-10, but you would have a tough time finding the right bell housing. I would not advise using the Isuzu transmission, either. Also, the S-10 is heavier, and the Isuzu C223 only produced 58hp (depending on the year, maybe 60 by '87). So you'd have to be a very patient driver.

Jack
