has anybody considered removing the " pickup bed" off their truck and putting on a flat tray to save weight?.

Welcome. With the v6 or the v8 you'll actually need the weight over the rears. If your bed is good id say keep it. Good luck, Bryan

Here's one from the gallery (I hope the owner doesn't mind). I kinda like it, and, if I didn't "need" the bed, I would probably do this to mine.

I dont think anyone has gone to a flatbed for style reasons. It's usually for work. I've seen VW bugs that were done for style but i really didn't think they went over very well.

Check out this site. They offer replacement bed for trucks. Looks to be really good quality. http://www.bruzerbox.com.

The flat bed may not look great but it does make it a great work truck, especially if your loading and unloading using forklift trucks. I'v had a flat bed on my luv since it was brand new. The only thing to watch for is the wheels rubbing on the body, to overcome this the bump stops need to be lowered.

ROFL!! Ok ok ya got me. Well, I do have to rebuild the frame completely so it will hold the weight. The flatbed off of the other truck I bought will be a nice starting point for that bed.

Now that the dog is going back with Mom (he's miserable in the apartment). I am seriously considering the flatbed thing. I would trade with you if you weren't so far away...
