My '80 Luv 4x4 project started with stripping the frame of a 2 wheel drive Luv, shaving ALL the front suspension componets off, installing '78 CJ jeep brackets/springs/axles, 32" tires & wheels and chevy small block drivetrain. It's nearly finished but I still need to come up with something to replace the whimpy stock steering box. I've been told older model ford pinto rack & pinion steering has been used and I know the mud boggers used that setup but I'm thinking maybe a power steering box off a CJ or something. Any ideas/ suggestions would be appreciated.

Match something up to the Jeep front end. Will be your best bet at decent steering geometry.

don't try the rack,it's good for 2wd stuff but no 4wd.Alot of guys who do straight axle swaps on toyota trucks use the box off of a ifs toyota, you could also use a 2wd chevy powersteering box and do the cross over steering conversion. Both should be easy to find at your local junk yard.

The toyota box will be off of the 1986 and later. that box swings to the left and right. The 1985 and before swings front to back. I would build a cross over setup then it's done forever! If you decide to lift the truck more that you can get a drop pitman arm and build new bars.

If the std box is in the right spot and the arm moves the right way just use an early trooper box.

But research it, dont know enough about what your doing to say if it will work 100%
