My 1978 has the problem most Luvs have with the dash cracking and looking bad . A new dash is expensive and only avalible from overseas . I bought the Ebay dash cap and thought someone might be interested so I documented the install . Hope this isn't a repeat .

The dash before minus speaker defrost grill

I cut and sanded the rough and curled edges of the old dash . Filledth cracks that the cap would not cover with black rtv silicone to help them blend in . and cut the speaker grill/defrost grill with a dremel tool and modified the defrost grills to fit dash cap , as it did not look correct to me with the holes just being open . After modifing the holes I painted them with trim paint to try and clean them up .

Then cleaned the dash with windex again and let it dry . After drying I applied adhesive supplied in the kit and taped , weighted , and fit the cap for overnight drying .

hope it comes out good . I will post results tomorrow . Coverlay no longer makes this cap , but still has the mold .

Good job my friend! My 78 came with one just sitting on the dash not glued. I think it's in my 80 now the same way, not glued, just sitting there. :smt102

Looks great. My LUV's dash was too far gone on the lower end so I had to get a complete new one, I wish I could have gone with the cap.

Looks pretty simple. I just got my cap in the mail today. I have one question. I have a wide crack in the top of my dash. I was wondering if I should try to fill it in with silicone or something. Or will the cover just hide it without filling it in?

The dash looks great! I also cut out the coverlay to insert the factory speaker/defrost grille. It looks a lot better. Yours should last for years. Mines been on my 76 since 1987 and still looks as good as new!

I called coverlay to ask them a couple of questions and they ask where i got the cap from . They told me that mold had been retired for years and that mine had to come from someones stock pile . Thanks for the feedback . People that know these trucks seem to freak out when they see a nice dash . By the way , your truck is very nice .
