Whats the purpose of those holes that look like vents on the rear pillar of the cab? I finaly found a luv and want to do a little custom work. Eliminating those vents is one of them. Also anybody know if there is a place to get a smooth skin for the tail gate?

No purpose, just looks I would say, I am leaving mine, I think they are unique.

No place you can buy them (anymore), you will have to find a metal fab shop in your area to custom make you one. There is a guy here that has made a couple, my dad ended up with a louvered one with the plate box in the middle (I think it is hideous!!! :? ) There is not much to making them but for buying one over the counter, I doubt you will find one. I will just end up making my own when I redo my truck.

i think they are to help draw fresh air thru the cab. but ive always thought that was what windows was for. shouldnt be that hard to close them off. i would just cut them out and mig a patch into it, then grind and sand smooth.
i agree w/ tilted tho. i think it give a unique look to the truck.
i used to tell ppl that they are air vents for my intercooler  8)

I thought the were vents also but when I looked at them from the inside, they are completly closed off to the inside of the cab.

I think there open at the top above the headliner. They are for drawing air thru the cab. When these trucks were new, you could feel the pressure in the cab when you shut the door with the windows were rolled up. The pressure couldn't equalize fast enough thru the vents. If you close them off, you could run the risk of trapping fumes from the engine into the cab if you have the windows rolled up. Im sure that if you close them off, you wont end up dead from any fumes. If you start to feel sick, open a window a little and get the holes in your firewall sealed. And get the fume source fixed.

I did not like the vents either. I used a hack saw and cut out the louvers. I made a cardboard cutout the exact size of the hole, and used an old fender to cut out my patch. It will be a lot easier to weld if you use the same thickness of metal. It was not very hard to do. I sure could not find any useful purpose for those vents, but for me it would not have mattered anyway, they were getting cut out. It is just what you like.
