OK minds out of the gutter

Anyone know where the short(std) bed trucks and the long bed trucks are differnt. Just bed, bed and frame, wheelbase? or what.

Thanks

the bed wheelbase and frame are different from longbed to shortbed. the frames are still basically the same but one is just longer and has one more crossmember i think.

I have a long bed on my 79, it has a dual driveshaft, so it has a carrier bearing crossmember right at the back of the cab

Anyone know how much longer? I am think of when I get finished with my current Luv and I can drive as a daily drive with the a race at the track now and then.

I am looking to make a king cab, cab and a half lov truck. It would be nice if I didn't have to strecth the frame. t would be easier. If I have to streach it , so be it. I should need 18" to 24" to do what I need to do. Plus one extra cab and some sheetmetal.

Richard

The '78 brochure on Page 3 states a 7-1/2 foot bed opposed to the 6 foot standard, with a slightly higer payload/GVW rating.
(http://www.luvtruck.com/Information.htm :) )

Code:
              LUV         Longbed LUV
Wheelbase     102.4"      117.9"
Overall       173.8"      190.9"
Bed Length    73.0"       90.1"

(Hope the spacing came out right)

Yep about a foot and a half. I sold my v8 long bed because I don't like long beds at all. They do say a lonf bed luv or s 10 is better for drag racing though because of the longer length.
Frame and bed is longer.

they do say longer wheelbase on anything is better. But I have not seen a Cuda, Chevelle, or anything like that around. Now I will say that the Stock and Super Stock wagons were hard to beat I hated to run against the Super Stock wagons.

So I guess the general thought is sound. But it sure takes the fun out of things sometimes.

Only thing I like about it is the grille. don't like the club cab trucks at all. Extended are ok but just don't like the looks of the club. Whatever happened to a truck is a truck like the good old days.

if your drag racing, they say longer is safer? i have a short bed with a 496 running 9.75 @ 138mph and it never even wiggles. goes strait as a string and has never been a problem. all on stock leaf springs. my new project is going to be a supercab and stretched fender luv. mainly to get the engine back about 8-12 inches and make the seating a lil more compfy. i plan on using a short bed frame, so the rear tire will be right at the back of the cab. the fenders and hood will be 8" longer. the bed shorter, and i hope i will not have to extend the frame but i will if needed.

Sounds cool.

Many a real short wheel base car can be like a arrow. straight and true. A long wheel base can be something you can not keep between the rails.

It all depends on the chasse builder. I love to watch short wheel base cars, that go. Vegas, Anglis, any mini car... They just seem faster, all things being equal. Also like to see the old straight axle cars.
