Are there any Luv's that have had a different dash installed?

I am not thinking of a race truck stripped down dash. More of a custom dash or dash from a different car-truck

I am thinking of using a 59-60 chevy car-el camino dash
Any other ideas?

Richard

I stumbled onto this but it's as much as the cover from Australia if they still have them, If it fit it would look pretty cool. :) Some of the other pages on the site have a picture of a more finnished one.

Interesting!

I have been contemplating what to do to mine, as the dash pad is cracked at the radio...

I just looked at a couple of 59-60 El Camino dashes.
Bulky but reworked migtht look quite nice.
I think what stood out for me is that it was similar to the LUV dash shape and all metal; I like painted dashes...

I have been thinking for a while taking the design from like a 50's chevy truck and implimenting it, it would be a lot of metal fab, but who knows, a winter project might be fun. . . ya know, once my truck gets out of paint. . .

That mid-late 70's Trans Am dash, console, and arm rest looks pretty sweet in a LUV. I like the looks of it. Thanks for showing it to us ctmandu.

I have thought about using the set up out of a vette but never dedicated to the idea.

The new dash width is the issue.

What about an S10 dash? Is it even close?

There is a Syclone/Typhoon, Dash replacement that is nice.

A 49-early 55 dash would work. Most all of the dashes would have to be cut out of the donor car-truck. I think the Luv dash would have to be cut out too.

I know a few people that have put differnt dashes in their VW's bugs. Cutting the new dash, shorting, changing the conture of the dash on the windshield side.

I think it would be worth the effort, if someone is not worried in keeping it stock. A differnt dash would allow you to use non Luv Parts that should be easy to find.

That is what I want to do with mine. Is that the original just covered. with aluminum or does the old have to be cut out entirely. I would like to cover mine in carpet or rock guard and paint it.

I was looking at LMC, and they are poppin' new 48-53 Chevrolet truck dashes and everything in them. They are metal so they could easily be cut and dialed in, I just want to know how far I will have to cut it  i think that would be a cool dash to have.

I think that would be awesome, but how would the dimensions be ? It looks like that dash wouldn't like to be cut and re-fitted to be put back together :)

I cut the whole dash out the used 1/2" box tubing across the front and 3 1"x1/8th" strap across the top.The gauges just clear the front tubes and i used button head bolts instead of rivets to anchor it down with.Makes it easier to remove and replace.

tj white: dash looks nice. Did you custom make the aluminum part of the dash or bought it pre-bent?

I had a 65 El Camino and I liked the simplicity of that dashboard, and it even had a dash pad.
I would think that would be a clean appearing one alike this GTO idea ...
