This mod will set the pinion angle a bit more negative than before. If you're running alot of power to the tires, this may benefit you. The pinion angle will want to angle downward because of the load to the tires. Some adjustments may need to be made to the rear (traction bars, slide-a-link or what have you). If there's some kind of adverse effect, going back to stock shouldn't pose too much of a problem. Tell us if it works out.

Did you narrow the stock frame rails? I run the same size tires 31X18.5 and had to narrow my frame to 17 1/2 inches and because of the ladder bars travel I had to use aftermarket rails.

I narrowed the frame 14.5"s using the frame rails out of another luv truck now i'll probably catch it for cutting up another luv.I have some pic's of how i boxed the tow frame rails i will try to post them. blue meanie you are right about pinion angle but i ladder barred the rear so on mine that was taken into consideration. On a stock type rear i think a 2-4 degree pinion shim would take care of any problems. I well try and post some pic's of the frame.

Well will you look at that another Buick racer. I think i have mine at between 4-5 deg. neg. and it works good but when i get it to the strip is when i'll know that it all works together.

TJ, I mostly run SBC's cause the parts are easier to come by, but a few years back you could pick up the early to mid 70's land yachts cheap. My buds and I pulled the engines and tranny's from buicks, olds, pontiacs, and caddy's and put in mostly chevy pickups. They had lots of torque and were cheap fun. The caddy's had to have rev limiters though. They couldn't take manny 6000 runs. lol.

Yes cads are rpm limited but with that kind of torq who needs rpm's anyway? I built a 78 chev stepside(should have kept it) with a stock 70 Eldorado 500,t400,and a chevy 2.73 posi. rear and talk about a sleeper that thing had every thing 25 mpg cruising,a 150 top end was no problem and it made me money drag racing. I set the gov. in the trans so it would shift at 4500 and it was deadly consistent.I have built about 6or 7 chev pickups with 455 Buicks and even a 56 chev 2 dr hard top with a 455 buick now you can see whe the 455 in my LUV.

The 455's are durable that is for sure ,the one in my truck was my circle track race engine (A-stock then super stock)it has not been apart other than intake changes since 1986 but it is do if i want to run it hard and keep it alive.
