Take a look at your local suppliers too. We have a couple in my area that are reasonable. Ive seen some paint on the net that was cheap, but after you factor in the shipping of hazardous materials it wasnt too far off of what I could get localy. Not to mention if something is wrong all you have to do is drive back to the store. Most places keep paint that people bring back and sell it at discount so ask when you call or go there.

Paint should be easy to find. If you mean real Metal Flake that might be a little tuffer. Metalic dark blue sholdn't be hard to find. Check with a local body and see where they get their paint from. I don't know how big Pampa is but there should be a parts house (auto supply) that carries paint in your city. If not you may have to get some from Amarillo.

Now here is a problem. Cheap can have several meanings from free to inexpensive. If you want a good paint job, get good paint. You don't have to have $600.00 a pint House of Kolors, but PPG makes some good stuff. The biggest thing I have learned is pick a brand and use their system. Primer, paint thinner etc. They do not all work together. some will, but others will make you wonder why you ever tried to get your truck painted....

I am not preaching to you, or putting you down or anything like that. I speak from some experance myself and others that I know...

Good luck with your Luv Truck ....
HTH
Richard.

PapaG Im not tryin to rip on you or put you down, but you need to shop somewhere else for your paint. $600 a pint!!! I only paid $250(only 8O ) a pint for that color change paint. On average I pay about $30 a pint for the base coats I use from Sherman Williams.

Hi bighappy.

I have never used HoK paint my self. I just saw a bill for it at someone elses shop. I don't even remember anything about it but the price WOW 8O

I used to use S&W years ago in oil field truck rigging. It was good paint and a lot cheaper than most others... Of course it was all single stage paint back then

You make a very good point about the price. Shop around... No wallymart for auto paint.

I know Advance A-P can order you basic colors, with a few being met. flake, by Dupli-color, if you have Carquest nearby, they handle Dupont as well as Sherwin Williams.just try to stay with enamel paint, it will give more durable shine.

I agree... Being in Texas, you should be able to find a Carquest auto paint supply. DuPont is what i got on my truck. It's basic paint that matched the factory color. If you want something more elaborate, then it's gonna cost you more.
But dealing directly with a paint supplier will get you the correct paint that you want.

House of Kolor is expensive, but I'm pretty sure the only reason it was $600 a pint was due to shop mark up, or it was a kandy. I used ppg base and pearl on my LUV(pics comin soon), cost me $260 for everythin(1gal clear, 1gal white base, pearl, hardner, etc). Now if you want some type of flake, HoK sells 6oz canisters for $40 at my paint store, and it is great! I used it on a VW buggy, solid green flake, looked bad ass!

Paint is something you only want to do once, and you get what you pay for. If you are talking about buying what you want for the best price you can get it for then cheap works. House of Color or PPG or one of the good brands out there just came out with a new paint that is almost like metalflake. The pigment goes on and reflects light in different directions. If you go with a single stage paint, you will not have the deep reflection. If you go with a double or triple stage it will magnify every defect in the body work.

I painted my Valiant this way. It's no show car, but looks a lot better than it did. It took some work, but was cheap and pretty cost effective.

Now, if my son's LUV had a single straight panel without rust-throughs, we'd probably paint it too!

I don't know if any of you have followed the link to the Mopar site, where a guy painted his 69 Charger with paint rollers and using Rust-oleum paint. The comments are up to 40 pages long!!! I'm going to try this on my 76. Rust-Oleum has the right colors and of course rust primer. What the hell, it sure beats the auto paint shop prices. Just thought you all should check it out.

dbest Have you started the paint job yet? i am interested to here how it is going. remember to take your time on the prep work. any imperfections will only get magnified by paint.

I just left a job working as a paint delivery driver.
Sickens is the best paint specially for matching colors. Lesonal is a really good fairly inexpensive paint.
Actually since I am not driving mine much in bad weather I bought our U-Tech line. It is very reasonable and you can get it in single stage urethane or base clear.
No paint is really cheap any more. Luckily I can still buy it from my prior employer for 10% over cost.
Ifr you go to bare metal be sure and etch primer the whole truck. If not get some spray cans of etch primer and do any bare spots over a quarter in size first then use the epoxy primer over the whole thing.
Block , prime and block till ya get er straight and smooth.
If ya need any blue metal flake let me know. I have a small container of the old bigger flakes.
They also can get the factory matching color like they did on my sons Luv I painted
We actually had some color change paint for 1,200 a gallon. The tri coat pearls weren't too bad just more clear needed and time.
I am leaning toward the single stage urethane for ease but will probably do the base clear.
Luv bodywork and painting.

NACE is said to be some good less expensive paint.

http://www.southernpolyurethanes.com/ Southern Polyurethanes makes some great paint. Check them out... I wish I was getting a kickback for this info
