The impulse 1.9L motor was computerized, but the PUPs and Troopers didn't change over to fuel injection until after they quit using the G200/1.9L motors. Any disti found in a G200 Troop or PUP should be a a pretty dumb unit not designed for any sort of brain to run it. Even the one in my 86 Trooper (carb 2.3L motor) has no computer controls on it at all.

Uh...OK.

I guess I was just trying to point out that having just the Isuzu distributor without the matching ignitor module won't work, and which Isuzu ones I know from experience for sure will work, and what parts will interchange. There are of course several options, I just went with what I thought would be the cheapest/easiest when I did mine.

So no biggee...to each his own.

FYI Fulla...when you try to link from an item from that site, it just takes everyone to their home page - not the item.

So, according to Nukeday and Catman, the stock coil and external resister work just fine with the electronic dizzy from an '85 I-Mark, right? I just need the right rotor and cap? Well somebody please verify this before I waste the investment I made on the dizzy by trying to run it wrong. Do I need the high performance Accel coil or not? Do I need the ignitor module?

To alleviate some of your concern, you may want to just make two extension wires for the new distributor and clearly mark them 'plus' and 'minus', (or use red and black wires). The plus will go into the side of the dizzy connector with a stripe on the wire, the minus to the other side. These two wires then need to be connected to the plus and minus connections on your coil. No need to remove anything except the nut, just add these wires to what is already there.

You can then remove the old dizzy, and leave the existing (-) wire unconnected until you are satisfied you've done this right.

Then all you have to do is set the engine for TDC, pull the vacuum advance and swap the distributors.

I can see clearly now.

I just can't see my cap!!! (Cuz it ain't here yet)

Here's the coil I had in question. I understand this would give a hotter spark, but would this work with the stock external resister, or would there be yet another part to add?

Ive got a few different distributors here out of different isuzus.

The rule i make is take the lot. Cut the wring on the (donor) car (wiring loom) side of the coil.
That way youve got the coil that goes with the distributor your using.

Its easy to tell whats what with the cap off.
If you need a module on the coil theres only one little black pickup in the distributor. If you need to run the stand alone coil with full 12V, the distributor will have two black lumps in it (one being the pickup the other the ignighter)..

From what i can tell all the coils are the same. Nippon made with a black steel body and blue plastic top.

Bob.

Heres some pics here that might help.

http://www.ozisu.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=252

Thats all the 4Z series distributors.
The only one that has an external module on the coil is the 4ZB1 1.8L motor.

I have since gotten a 4XE1 1.5L distributor out of a FWD (Gemini) I mark.
The internals out of this will fit into a G161Z-G180Z-G200Z distributor with some small modifications.

Heres a link. Its a long thread but its got all the info you need.
http://www.ozgemini.com/forums/tech/viewtopic.php?t=1651&highlight=distributor+conversion

Heres a different take on it. Its uses some of the Isuzu bits from the RB FWD and some bits from a Mitsibushi (Sigma RWD Med sized 4dr sedan {coupe version called the Starion}), not sure if it was saturn or astron motor.
http://www.ozgemini.com/forums/tech/viewtopic.php?t=4287

Join up in that forum and have a look about. Theres lots of info, search for electronic distributor and you get like a thousand hits.

Cheers, Bob.

Well Rodeo, I can't stay on my computer too long right now, but I did look over some of those links, and interesting it was! You Aussies seem a bit on the vulgar side, but other than that you do certainly have a love for cars with Isuzu engines!!! Lots to see, and many photos!!! Thank you for opening that to see, and I need to take a few more photos of my LUV too! :)

Nah its out enviroment that makes us vulgar, makes us thick skinned too. lol. Its a harsh country down under. Big news story yesterday was that the past year was the driest since 1855. Something like only 1/3 of our normal anual rainfall.

It doesnt help all the movies you guys send out way, its F-bomb this and F-bomb that. Gets us in a fightin mood. lol.
