Now here they are mounted up. Please keep in mind that everything you are seeing here will be wire-wheeled, cleaned, undercoated and/or painted.

The steel used for the mount is 3x3x1/4 wall square tubing. There is only 5.5 inches of separation between the rear bolts and I dont believe thats enough leverage to bend this mount. I realize that the mount should have been another inch or so longer just to reach across the whole pad and to be more visually appealing, but I already had 2 lengths cut to the size you see. Steel is expensive 8O

As you can see, I've opened up the holes from the cab and used the stock Luv body mount between the mount and cab. The slight protruding lip on the mounting pad now fits into the cab bolt hole. The mount is bolted solidly to the frame. This gives the option of welding the mount to the frame. The middle body mounts under the floor will be done the same way but they are much closer together so the mount will be smaller. Stay tuned...

Middle mounts are done. Here is a couple photos showing the difference in the mounts. The Luv mounts are @ 3" behind and 1/2" wider than the Toy mount.

Now here are a couple with the mounts installed. I ended up using a factory Toy rubber mount between the frame and the mount I made for reasons I will explain in a minute.

I discovered that simply using my 3" steel mount with the Luv body mount and spacing it the same on all the mounts will not allow the body to sit right.

If you've noticed, on Toyotas and most if not all other trucks, the body sits pretty level on the frame when looked at from the side and referenced off the frame rails under the door.

Because of the differences between the 2 truck mounts, you must make the mount height different at each location to make the body sit level. Here is a picture of what I came up with. It's a little hard to see but it is just a touch higher in the front but pretty level nonetheless. Toyotas always have that slight nosedive to their stance anyway

Here we see the front mounts offset with the body in proper location on frame.

Image

On the drivers side, you can see that the front mount is hitting the top of the steering box. The front body mount on this side has already been partially removed by someone so I am going to remove both of them flush with the top of the frame and then pretty them up somehow so they still gusset the leaf spring mount.

I forgot to explain what I mean when I refer to the "proper position on the frame".

I determined the proper position by centering the front axle to the top of the Luv fenderwell as well as side to side of course. Here is what I have.

Here is what it looks like after some minor surgery on the front mount. Now I just have to build a couple mounts for these and the cab will be done. Then I can move back and do the bed.

more later...

Ok, the cab mounts are all done. :D Here is a pic of the passenger side mount.

Image

After pondering all the different ways to make the front mount for the drivers side, I decided to do it like this...

Image

The reason for doing it this way is for more steering options. A popular upgrade for 79-83 Toyotas is to install a steering box from a newer IFS truck which have crossover steering instead of the push-pull type which it has now. When you do this, the box must be moved forward slightly. I don't know for sure if I will do that or stay with the stock style and just put on a power box. Gotta have power steering

Since I had to cut off the drivers side stock mounting point, I made clever use of an old Jeep bumper bracket I had layin around. Here are a couple more pics showing the drivers front mount from different angles. here you can see that I bolted it through the upper side of where the stock mount was...

Image

Then I severely cut down a stock Toy frame mount and welded it to the inside of the frame and used the stock Luv rubber mounts on both sides

Now that the cab is in place, it's time to do the bed mounts. The first thing that must be addressed is the spare tire carrier. The Toyota has a crossmember which uses the same crank type carrier that the Luv has. This pic shows the Luv carrier hitting the crossmember and holding it slightly too high.

Image

It has now been removed.

Imagine my surprise when I found out tonight that the 77 Luv I have was an A/C truck and it appears that the a/c stuff for the inside of the truck is all there! 8O :D All of the cables feel like they are doing their job. The hot/cold one was a little stiff but it's better now.

Image

Can't believe I've had this truck almost 6 months and never realized it until today. Sorry guys, no a/c parts are for sale. They are all going into my 75 4x4.

I have a few more bed mounts to make but in these pics, it is in it's final position.

Image

Image

Remember that the suspension is not done yet and the wheels are just rollers. 31' tires. i will probably run a 32 or 33 on it and I am trying to find a set of 15x8 or 15x10 ansen style slot mags which will be highly polished. Thats the plan anyway  . The rear suspension will have 63" chevy leafs from a 88-98 Chevy truck but will remain about the same lift height as it is now, and the front will be raised up about an inch or so with Jeep Wagoneer leaf springs. That, combined with adjustable reservoir shocks should give me the plush street ride that I want. :D

I just had to set my LuvTruck.Com sticker on the window for these first overall pictures :smt023 . It's really tempting to paint this truck white because with the sticker being white, it would look soooo good  Don't think I can do it though

While contemplating how to do some of the bed mounts, I took everything out of the cab, wire wheeled and undercoated the inside floor. There was no cancer on the floor. The underside of the cab floor will also be undercoated with roll-on truck bedliner material.

Image

After paint, I am also going to line the whole interior with Dynamat type sound deadener. The only metal that will be showing on the interior are the 2 strips above and below the door panel.

Thank you! :D

The reason I don't wanna use white is because my inspiration for this build was the "unknown" truck that Tilted took a pic of in the Gallery. It's white. It looks good and all but I just can't do it the same color. I never usually decide for sure on a color until I go in the store to buy it  .

Some good news I forgot to mention....I found a PERFECT Pass. front fender, a set of the coveted staggered fender emblems I've been looking for, and a set of Mikado emlems at the Pick N Pull last weekend :multi:

Ya, I know what you meen bout the color. I have yet to decide a color for mine. Lately I have been thinkin a bright ass red (really deep lookin). But then again, that lil truck already draws enough attention, don't need any from the local P.D  Anyway, again, great job. Keep it up!!

Looks good man! Can't wait to see it done. You'll have to bring it up when you get it finished.
