What all has to be done aside from the normal stuff... (knotching and what not)

I pretty much just want to know what the heck do you do with the front end.

the control arms hold up the frame 1.5" off the ground, gotta cut the frame and "z" it to lay out. I don't have any good pics from my build up I don't think, but you can go check it out and see

check out mike (dallas hotrod parts) new control arms. that will help a lot. Z'ing the frame means you cut it, raise it up, then kinda ... .rebuild it after its lifted. if that makes sense. i know how to do it but cant explain it too well.

not a luv but i googled it and it kinda gives the idea.

and the back just notch the frame and do a 2 link, 4 link, whatever you choose. you can do bags on the bars, on the axle, its kinda personal preference. there is no technical wrong way to do it. i mean there is wrong way to do what you choose ... but there are pro's and con's to everything. there is no "perfect" set up

Thanks for the info. The back is fairly simple from what I gather but I hear the front setup on the LUV is pretty hard to bag compared to a yota or something.

But if I get the control arms from DHR what else would I need as far as bagging the front except the bags and brackets?

kinda depends. im going with a full s10 brake set up so i can swap to 5 lug. im getting the s10 balljoints in my arms when i order them. but you can use stock s10 spindles which are a dime a dozen. calipers, rotors, pads, etc. im doing this more/less because all of it needs to be replaced on my truck regardless. that and i get cost on parts at the parts store my friend works at.

overall if you do the dallas hotrod arms from the start, this truck is fairly simple to bag. i dont mean lay out. i mean bagged and functional

Stock spindles will for sure lay out on 18s. Drop spindles will work better with say 20s but its possible to lay out flat on 20s and stock spindles. For me .. Whatever I find cheaper is what I'm gonna use to be honest. And if you are gonna do a v8 I'd suggest v6 s10 spindles. I've been told they are cast different. I can't confirm that, its just what I've been told.

What about getting some better gearing? I am already tired of winding out at 70mph.

literally the only thing i know mechanically about this truck is it is a 1.8L carb. id suggest posting that in the drivetrain upgrades section.

Well, if you're up to it, the smog refs look kindly on putting a newer engine in an older vehicle... like say a complete transfer from a '90's vehicle (air cleaner to exhaust tip) ought to be good. If you're going through the front end right now, prolly should beef it up if you're even considering putting a newer V-8 in it.

BUT... talk to the local smog ref first.

its a 76 still needs to be smogged lol. Its going to just be a crusing truck hence the bags. But I would like to get better gas mileage and not be so hard on the motor cause its also my daily driver.

TRUE that on the gas mileage. thats why im going with the ecotec motor and because its different from what every one on here is doing. so have you figured out what bag setup your going with?
