Anybody ever used one of these on a Luv? I was wondering how sturdy they are and if they will hold up for very long.

They have several types that are pretty cheap and that apparently are easy to install.

I was thinking about hooking one of them up to a home-made plenum I bought on ebay real cheap from a guy in Australia that fits right over my weber and is made to hold a standard K&M weber air filter.

It has a large round tube opening one side of it for air to enter...and adding a plate to the underside of the hood with a round connection for hooking up some flexible dryer-type hose or tubing from the scoop to it would be pretty easy to do.

Here's what it looks like now:

The welding job and fabrication of it isn't the best I've ever seen...but I intend to modify it and clean it up some...and either replace, re-locate, or replace the round pipe-like connector attached to it....or just use the whole thing for a pattern and make a new one.

I'm running out of things I can do to my truck to make it a little faster...and I just want to get a little more air to my poor little 1.8 to try and squeeze a little more horsepower out of it.

Never used one but it appears it should work. The durability would mainly be based on how you mounted it. I would suggest something a little stronger the double sided tape which is what they expect you to use, maybe actually mode it to you hood with some kitty hair. My only question would be if it would restrict air flow are low speeds? The plenum I would say needs to be worked with a little but could be made to work quite well.

Yeah..I just showed the plenum to a machinist guy I know and he couldn't stop laughing...lol

So we are no doubt going to design a much better one using an old junk weber and a rusty old K&M air cleaner as a pattern to fabricate a more functional one up.

And I agree...I think the scoop could be better fastened securely to the hood a little better from the underside with rivets, small bolts and nuts, or screws.

Or be secured under the hood and have the hole in the hood large enough to close down around it and seal the whole thing.

I also wonder how it would all work with the addition of forced air...because I have a few small high rpm/low watt super fans that run on 12 volts designed for use in a computer server box lying around that I might just try to add into the mix...just to see what will happen.

Maybe I'll just order the biggest scoop that they have and see what it looks like...since they're so cheap....and just get a bit creative with a spare junk hood I have.

Wish me luck.

I'll probably need it...lol

It should work...although the plan with the fan may be a dead end....we got one out of a old compact we where gonna shoot up and It really seemed like a good idea but we hooked one on a eagle talion and it wouldn't run hardly with it hooked up...like it was starving for fuel....it helped on the highway though if you could ever get it rolling fast enough.

but good luck, hope it works out for ya.

LMAO!!

I wasn't thinking of doing anything quite that drastic.

And besides...having to run that 2-stroke leaf blower all the time would be such a huge noisy smoking PITA.

But then again...you sure would get noticed when you drove it around town...lol

I was just thinking about coming up with a way to make sure my truck had a constant steady higher volume of air going into the carb...whether the truck was moving or not....or else trying to set the carb's fuel/air mixture right for all driving conditions would be pretty tough.

But the problem of what to do about any water screwing up any electric fan setup that is constantly running when it rains is a serious drawback around here where I live.

And since my truck is a daily year-round driver...there goes that idea.

Holley or someone made a adjustable on the fly carb setup that had a knob that was in tha car. I don't remember if it worked, but I do remember selling some to customers who wanted them.

what is that thing? A tornado? or something like a electric turbo

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

yeah a tornado...it helps when it comes to saving gas...you will get roughly 1-5 more miles per gallon and a couple of more ground thumping amounts of horse power  Maybe not that much....but it would help I would say...It has no moving parts and it doesn't force any air but it my accommodate the ram air set up your building.

I still say it would be easier to just buy this turbo off me and bolt it right up.
