If this will be a streeter, I don't think so. No rebound on the cylinders. It would probably be a rough ride. Plus there would be a danger of the shaft bending from lack of said travel when the cylinder is extended. If it's strictly for shows where it would be trailered to and from, then maybe. I'm not knowledgeable about a setup on a vehicle, I'm going by industrial experience with them. So if I'm wrong, I apologize in advance.

I have 2500 contitechs on my front suspension and have no clearance issues at all. Rides nice in the front too, but sorry I don't have any pics of the front setup at the moment.

Air suspension rides nice but it handles like crap.

usually when you have a custom air suspension, it really isn't for ride quality :D

I Thought Air Suspension Is Suppose To Be Superior To Everything. Least Thats How Air Ride Puts There Set Up To Be.

Which I Haven't Tested Any Newer Style Systems.

if you have a bagged ride that handles like crap, most likely whoever did the install didnt understand what they were doing and also didnt take inot consideration the users intended purpose for the vehicle. My truck handles great. I still have the sway bar and everything.

My buddy autocrosses his s10, it had the zq8 suspension which he changer over to a hotchkis performance package, then later bagged his truck. I had to do some creative fab on the front frame but he can run the bags at 110 psi on the front and the truck is lower and handles better than his performance suspension from hotchikis, at least the coil springs and leafs......

its all how you set it up.

EDIT: You can also read more about air suspensions used in performance applications in the dec 06 issue of Custom Classic Trucks. There is a 4 page spread on the performance aspects of air suspension and testing that took place.

I Have Teased My Fragile Little Mind With The Idea of Running Bags Before But Haven't Got Up the Confidence To Do It, Guess Simply Because I Want As Much Handling As Possible. I Have Heard Good and Bad Things From It. Have Installed A Air Ride Tech. System In A S10. It Handle Better The Factory But I Still Wasn't Too Impressed With Over All Performance Compared To The Price Spent.

Thats the main bit.

If your setting it up for a set height to run at its not so bad, but + or - weight will affect it. Variable ride height is a compromise between bad and god awful.

Airbags have their applications. Each to their own i suppose.

your right, to each his own.

but not to beat a dead horse or anything, but Air Ride, Inc's stuff is largely bolt-on and not designed for autocross or performace driving applications. They are geared toward ride comfort and ease of installation, bolt-on - sell to the masses...etc....etc...

The S10 I mentioned earlier I set up with a SD 4 bar parallel 4 link, a watts linkage, bags were located behind the axle (like a coil over setup) with koni 3011 double adjustable high pressure monotubes. The front consisted of SD upper bag cups cut down and the frame rail section was above the coil spring was cut and fabed with a new section which allowed us to run the front bags at a higher psi and still keep the truck low. 4 valves on the front, 1/2" in for quick fill, and 1/4" with air mufflers out for getting the right air pressure in each bag. The air system is controlled through Air Ride RidePro E2...anyway, I could go on and on, but the fact is that air suspensions can be setup for whatever you want to do, you just have to taylor the install to the application....

can you tell I am a big fan of air systems?

I Like Air Ride Set Ups, And It Was A Big Improvement From Stock. But It Wasn't My Vehicle So I Couldn't Taylor It To My Driving Style. We Just Set It Up So They Would Have A Soft Ride and Be Able To Drop It Down Into The Weeds Whenever He Wanted To.

But The Idea With My Luv Is Still A Toss Up Between Air Bags and Coil Overs In All Four Corners of My Truck. Either Way I'm Going Four Link and My S10 Spindle Swap In The Front w/ Drop Spindles.

I Will Be Trying To Get The Truck To Hook Up Hard Under A Pretty Decent Amount of Power and Still Handle Well.

you all have alot of good to say and i appreciate it.......even with the cons of air ...i'm neck deep and theres no turning back now i'm doing cylinders in the front and 2600 firestones in the rear... 3/8 valves and lines 2 viar compressors and 8 valves so i can 3 wheel in the front......the cylinders vill have accumulators so i can have the same spring rate of bags instead of bending rods......... the next big project is going to be the fuel injected 383 stroker after i get back from my next tour in iraq, plan on using a tko five speed and a narrowed 12 bolt.... this thing is gonna be badass!!!!!!

cylinders will be cool, it will be a little more maintenance but cylindered cars (I haven't seen a cylindered truck yet) are sweet. Those bishes are fast and dance pretty well. The best air show I have seen was a crx on cylinders. he was three wheelin the crap out of it and man did that wheel move fast. though I'm not sure id run electric compressors with cylinders....and by that I mean, you are going to have so much fun making it dance and three wheel that you will want more air on hand for longer play times. You'll want quick air tank fill too....so since you'll be swingin a 383, might toss an engine driven compressor on it.

I have one on my 1.9l... it fills damn quick and is very reliable....
