I was thinking of doing a tilt bed and was wandering how to go about it ,if anyone has pics let me know. Also where can I get the stuff to do it ,hydraulics and all that is, what do I need. Thanks

P.S. what about the gas filler , also pros and cons on tilt bed

tilted has the setup on his, if i remember correctly. are you looking to tilt is like a dumptruck bed or the sideways tilt like the show trucks? either way i am sure tilted cna be of great help with this.

I have seen his but didn't see info on it and yes I would like to do the dump bed. I have looked threw all my old truckn mags (70's-80's) and don't have one that says how to do it and all those companies are out of business

i'm sure tilted can get you going in the right direction. I am suprised that it is hard to find info on doing this. seems like just a few years ago all the lowered trucks were doing up the dancing beds and all that stuff. anyway, good luck with this and keep us posted.

If I remember right, some time back on Trucks they showed an air bag type set-up for that type of tilt bed. If you go to truckstv.com, you might be able to go back through the Gear section and find it. No guarantees though, since I can't remember how long ago they featured this set-up. Hope this helps.

With the technology they have out there today, I would look into possibly using an air setup instead. They have air cylinders that will lift cars so I don't see why you couldn't use an air pressure regulator to make the bed go up as fast or slow as you'd like. I had a double diamond dancing hydraulic bed on my Mazda years ago. Companies like Lowriders Hydraulics in San Jose or Reds Hydraulics in L.A. can set you up with the equipment. Both of these companies were doing this when mini trucks were big so they can probably guide you through it. All you need to do for a dump bed is to hinge the bed to the frame in a beefy way then mount your Hydraulic or air setup to lift and lower it. Where and how you mount your cylinders will determine how far back the bed will tilt. You don't want the cylinders to hang down too low and you don't want it to tilt back beyond the balance point or it wont come down on it's own.

Well mine was a home design job we did with gate hinges. It is all bolt on using two of the bed mounts. I went sideways to be a little different and I also didnt have to mess with the gas filler this way either. If you go back, you have to disconnect the filler from the bed and it just kind of hangs out in the fenderwell and you have to lift the bed every time you need gas. I never got around to putting on the hydraulics on mine. I have a chrome pump that has been sitting in the garage for over 10 years now and I just used a fence pole to hold the bed up. When I redo my truck, the bed will stay on the frame. It was great at shows with all the comments (good, bad and totally stupid) about why I did it and scored extra points with the judges as most trucks didnt have detailed suspensions. I know the guys who didnt use hydros used and air shock to lift the bed up. Personally now, I think it was an 80's trend that has run its course (like most of the mods done to my truck! )!

I haven't been able to find anything on Lowriders Hydraulics , thats the one I see in my old truckin mags the most . Was hoping they where still around. I guess Ill just fab one up myself.
