Anybody converted their Luv's rear brakes to Disc? I live in a area with some steep hills and think the all Disc would be the way to go.
If so, perhaps brakes from a Isuzu trooper to do so?
thanks :)

The rear axle from an 88 and up trooper should fit pretty close and be discs. You might have some creativity to get the e-brake cables to hook up, but I'd guess the rest would be fairly simple. The Isuzu 12 bolt axle is really quite strong, up there with a D44 on the break-o-meter, and there are locker/LSD options for it.

The only other item I can think of to complicate things would be the driveline attachment. You might have to have some custom driveline work done. Most come with 4.56 gears, but 4.77 came with the "wide tire" option, and there are other options out there. Check out the FAQ over at http://www.independent4x.com for info on axles used in Isuzus through the years.

I'll have to check out my junkyards. I think I paid $250 before to shorten and alter the driveline for my truck.

According to most of the repair manuals the stock LUV ratio is 4.10. I've never had one apart and counted teeth or counted revs on the wheel to verify though. Also going from the book, auto tranny luvs should have 4.56 gears.

For a 4x4 LUV, 4.56 gears would be available from the front diff in a trooper from 84-86 to match up to a 12 bolt isuzu rear. Getting the diff out of the front is no picnic though. It requires a fair amount of teardown of the front end.

6 lug: yes and its the same pattern

brake lines: I'll have to look but I believe they tie in the same way with a single hose in the center.

Drive shaft: I'm not even sure the hookup on the axle is different on the 12 bolt w/discs than it is on the 10 bolt with drums. I speculate that is is different, but I really don't know for sure. The connection point might also sit further forward or back, again I don't know for sure. From the pics I've looked at, they both look very similar, so any mod to the driveline is bound to be minimal. The best way to handle any differences is to have a driveline modifed to work, or custom made to match. It might be possible, if there are no length issues, to mix and match u-joint parts to get a LUV driveline that will bolt up to the Isuzu 12 bolt, but I'd plan for the worst and budget for driveline work.
