I have a 1981 Luv & i was getting ready to order the sbc mounts & headers from Summit but they told me that there Hooker headers that come in that swap kit will not work on my 81 Luv! :esurprised I'am now lost as to what direction to take here! Can someone please tell me what i need to do? I got to have sbc headers for this little 81 luv!

If you can weld/cut pretty good you can try to make them fit by cutting where needed or re shape the headers what I did was just but shorty headers and they went in just fine

Which shorty headers did you buy for it?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HED-69520/ they are cheap and fit right in and then i just used normal pipe to go down and then put these http://www.summitracing.com/search/Outlet-Diameter-in/3-000-in/?keyword=purple+hornie at after about a foot of pipe i have the tips the the front of the back tires under the bed as the end and i love the way that mine sounds.

i dont i pulled the motor. I am rebuilding right now,but i had it in a 74 chevy luv with a 350 SBC when i put it in the first time did not have to shave anything and the headers fit in there just fine.I did not think to take pictures of the motor set up because my radiator had a hole from my fan blade and sprayed crap all over the bay and it looked like hell.So when i put it back in im think electric fan.

Wel I think they should be the same size bay. The newer the longer wheel base they had. So I'm assuming if anything your bay would be bigger then mine but not positive on that.

yea that looks like more crap then mine had. im not sure you could try to find really short headers. They have some that are as big as stock manifolds and then you can just run more exhaust pipe.On mine the ones i had fit right in there it was a little bit of a tight fit but i put them on the first time with the motor in there.

Making the the motor mounts on a 81-82 is one of the easier mounts to make, basically they are the same as the S-10 kit. All you need is two pieces of 3" plate cut it into two pieces about 8" long, weld these to the old mount surfaces then add two ears to attach to sbc stock mounts. If you would like some pictres of mine, PM me. The engine compartment is entirely different from earlier models! As far as headers, if you find some to fit pls let me know about them, I'm currently using stock sbc ex manifolds.

I own a 79 luv with a 383 conversion. there was a small amount of cutting but i found the the shorty headers worked the best for me.

I pm a couple of guy's on this who have used the shorty headers one with some cutting the other with none I would like to solve this for the L.U.V.'s I hope you guys read or get back to me. Headmans 69520 was a no cut just need to know the mount for the engine. because both are still running torsion bars I will too. until I can upgrade to coil overs but the DR seems to be out for info on a complete dial in.
