I have a question maybe somebody can answer for me. I am a mini-trucker and love modifying trucks. I have a 1978 Chevy Luv, 2 Wheel Drive, that has the 80 mph speedometer and noticed that older luv's have a speedometer that reads 100 mph. I would like to install the 100 mph speedometer in my 78 and was wondering if i would have to install the complete wiring harness from the older model luv, be able to use the original wiring harness in the 78, or have to use a universal wiring harness? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been told that anything is possible or this type of modification will not be possible at all? If it is possible what would i need to do?

I took out a aftermarket gauge set and installed a 78 into a 76 Luv. It just took a wiring schemo to figure it all out. the answer is Yes, at can be done.

I agree. I'm currently connecting the wiring harness from an '82 to '75 guages. For the guages, I haven't had to cut any wires, just move them around in the connectors. You lose some functionality such as seat belt indicator but oh well...

Grab a couple of wiring diagrams for each year and compare. I think you'll find there is very little you have to do if you are staying with first generation luvs.
