Economy Auto Wrecking 559-924-1285 would be your best bet... there's a 4x4 stepside in Hanford that has been sitting without motor or rims/tires for months....

Does anyone know anything about this truck? I am getting ready to try the same swap, and I was wondering how this one went.

I would really like to hear from him so that I can find out what I'll be getting into.

In order to do the same thing I'm doing, what you're getting into is a complete teardown of 2 vehicles and re-assembling them into one. You will also need to know how to cut, grind, weld, do wiring and fabricate parts.

Hello all. I've been away for quite some time but I still have my truck. I made a vow not to abandon this project no matter what. It has just been sitting and is pretty much the same as in the last pics. I keep changing my mind as to what powerplant to use. I may go v8 with it....we'll see. I dont think I'll be visiting here as often as I used to but I'll check in as much as I can. Once I start on the truck again, I'll continue with the pictorial diary. :)

this may be a little late in your project but i would go with a 4.3 vortec chevy v-6 with a th350 trans. may have hell with u-joint mating, but by the looks of it i bet you could get around that. it would make plenty of power to push that anywhere you want to go. hell chevy puts them in 1/2 ton ext cab trucks lol.

another note, 350 pistons and rods will go right in a 4.3 ltr

Hello to all my old Luvtruck friends and to all the new members as well! It's nice to see the site is thriving!

Work is resuming on my project. The first thing is I will be re-doing my dumb-assed body lift/body mount setup. I have access to good tools and welders and such now so I am going to drop the body down which will only require R&R of one crossmember so the frame will not be so visible and cut off and move the body mounts to the right location. I will then lift the suspension more to gain the lost lift back. I have a set of brand new 33" Baja Claws for it already so I just want to clear them nicely. I will try to get set up to put pics up again as I make progress.

Any progress? I have a 76 Luv that has been in the yard for a year, I was gonna build a drag truck out of it, but found a good doner toy today with new axles in it with 4.88 gears, so I am thinking about doing something similar to this

I wasnt going to be that harsh but i was going to comment on the adapter mounts that you made.
By the look of it they all ran parrallel to the frame, the cab would be able to move around on the chassis.

I think the best thing would be to either move the cab mount brackets on the Toyota chassis to suit the Luv cab or remove them from the chassis and put the Luv ones on the Toyota chassis. Now youve got the tools.

I would still leave it body lifted a bit. It will help with the drive train fitting.
It will help with cooling as well depending on what engine you use, a V6 will mean decreased air flow.

For a drive train i would suggest a V6 setup out of a later model Isuzu. Or even a 2.6L 4cyl. No firebreathing monster but then its not the V8 you would expect it to have either.

Bob.

The 350 pistons fit the 4.3 but the rods are different unless you happen to find a odd fire 4.3.
