I'm going to fab a stepside bed for my LUV from a fullsize 68-72 chevy stepside bed.
I have one to mess around with, I decided to use this style since the wheel opening is more rounded like the LUV front wheel opening. I post pics as I make progress.

I'm going to use 68-72 fenders, although I like those 55 - 66 fenders.
cb6tig1, did you narrow the bed or leave it stock width? Did you shorten the bedside or leave it the stock length?
Don't Idaho police give tickets for no bumpers (front/rear)?
Thanx in advance
Dano

Back when these trucks were fairly new, guys used to take old 50's chevy stepside beds and cut a section out the middle, weld it back together, re-locate the fenders and shorten them a bit. Once you take the fenders of the donor bed, try standing the two beds up on end side by side and then make your measurements and do your cutting and welding. Then bolt the bed on the truck and center your rear wheel wells on the rearaxle when you re-attach the fenders. Don't forget to set up the gas tank mountings before you bolt the bed on. Maybe you'll get lucky and you can use the bigger tank from the donor bed.

It's been a real long time since I helped an old buddy of mine do his, but it sure looked sharp when it was done....and it didn't have fiberglass fenders like mine does now.

Good luck.

The stepside in the pic above is from a 55-66 Chevy or GMC.
Used to be a dime a dozen, but are getting harder to find and more costly.

Here are some LUV stepside fenders in Wenatchee.
They might still be available.
