on the 1.9 no the year doesn't matter
on the 2.3 and the 2.6 it come down to how much work you want to do, the 2.6 is fuel injected so to make it work you'd have to swap in the wireing harness and the computer aswell, or put the intake of of a 2.3 on it and have a 2.6 carb'd motor. the 2.3 was carb'd but I do know that later on, around 93-95 Isuzu did make a EFI version of the 2.3. and and one more thing with the 2.6, the 94-97 versions have some sensors that the earlier models didn't have, and i also believe they were OB-I(not 100% sure on that, 800 could clarify this for ya) If you want more info do a search for 2.6, the topic has been gone over many a time
