Apparently the trucks equipped with automatics have a higher ratio (numerically lower number). You could also swap in a S10 rear axle.

Hello drag bike bill

All LUV's to my knowledge came with 4.56 rear ends unless it has an automatic tranny then it got 4.10's. I have'nt seen too many LUV's with the auto in it but it's worth a shot. You could do like Ben said and get a rear end out of a S-10 they came with gears anywhere from 3.08s to 4.10s depending on year and tranny. hope this helps.

Dave

Hey guys,

I have an automatic truck with a 4:10 geared stock rear end.

My question - is the stock rear end as stout as an S-10 rear end?

If so I am gonna leave it. Until it breaks anyway.

Next, does anyone know if anyone makes a mini spool for a stock rear end?

And finally, are the stock axles held in with a c-clip and if so, is there a c-clip eliminator out there for it?

Thanks
Giles5

Hey GILES5

First Yes the stock axle from a LUV is quite a bit stouter than an S-10 axle, The LUV axle is a 1 peice housing with a third member drop out carrier. The S-10 rear end is a gm coporate 10 bolt C-clip unit.
Second I have seen spools in the LUV but don't know of where to get them.
Third as I said before the LUV has a drop out third member carrier. No C clips there for no need for eliminator kit.
Hope this helps

Dave

Hey Dave,

Thanks for the info...
I called Strange Axle Co today and they said that they didn't make a spool for a luv rear end. They did give me the number for a truck racing company in Detroit ....Reiter racing 800-522-2707.

They were very helpful and told me that the luv rear end is a mitsubishi (spelling sucks) rear end. He said "just weld it up until you break it and then replace it with something a little stronger". What a concept :? But very honest!

At least if i break an axle it won't pass me down the track :D
