Im getting ready to pull my motor out of my Luv as soon as I get time. I bought my truck with a small block allready in it. since I didnt put the motor and tranny in it Im wondering whats all involved in taking it out. Im guessing the motor and tranny have to come out in one piece. My brother said I should pull the front fenders hood and core support. I figured the hood obviously has to come off but I dont want to pull the whole front end. Any advice from anyone that knows would be greatly appreciated.

You shouldnt have to pull anything but the hood off. Remove the radiator, of course and disconnect all the needs to be, and you should be able to lift it right out. Don't forget to WRAP the tail of the tranny, or you will have one big mess. Oh and I would lift the truck up on some blocks about a foot or so. Good luck, and be careful!!

cool thanks for the info. I have an extra yoke that fits in the tranny so I think if I pull the drive line and stick the other yoke in it real quick it shouldnt make too big of a mess. I want to switch motors but Im not even looking forward to the change over. I guess this a labor of luv.

Get cherry picker from Pep Boys ~ 179.00
Jerk it out

Carefull of the tranny, it likes to spill it's guts.

between the old tranny fluid and 90 wt gear oil I dont think there is much that could possibly smell worse, at least in my garage.

actually GM came out with gear oil that smells like grapes, not like "Oh there's some grapes", it's more like "OH MY GOD THERE'S A GRAPEVINE UP MY NOSE!!!"

It's just called GM Rear Axle Lubricant.(BTW it's some pretty expensive stuff, but I put it in my rear myself) But I think the only weight that comes with the grape scent is the 75w90, I haven't exactly went around smelling every bottle of gear oil in the place. I'll take my camera to work and show you a pic on here.
