 Post subject: Vacuum lines????
PostPosted: Tue Sep 13, 2005 10:02 pm
A bunch of lines are coming up from the underside of the truck. I know the main gas line--I hooked it up to the stock fuel pump on my SBC 350. What do I do with the other lines? Especially those that come up and gather on the firewall at some kind of juction box or something. What do I do with them?

those are for the emissions system they go to the separator box under the cover right behind the driver in the bed. There should also be another line, was originally the fuel return line. The others you can block one but leave at least one of them open to vent the tank. you can put a length of hose on it, coil it up and leave it on top of the tank. the coil will help prevent any fuel leakage under cornering and such.

would you try to hook up the fuel return line or block it off as well? Well let me ask it this way--All I need is the main fuel line hooked up to the fuel pump, right? If any more needs to be hooked up tell me which ones. Thanks for any help.

I have hooked up both ways on different trucks. Doesn't seem to be necessary to have the return line. Just make sure to cap it off well if you decide not to use it.

I hooked the return line up to the carb. don't guess it makes a difference. Thanks for the input. I just routed the lines under the hood to an inconspicuous area so they would vent the tank. Thanks again.

i belive that the return line should always be hooked up. in my case i have a new fuel pump that i know whould put out to much pressure to the float bowls on my weber, thus causing it to run rich and all screwed up. if the return line is hooked up then this is no longer an issue, the extra pressure that the carb cant take is sent back thru the return line.
