Well i have been doing some reaserch on where to start to get some more performance out of the 425. First thing i learned was one of these brutes fully assembled is only 575lbs. Kinda light for how big it is. Then comes the fact that the intakes on these go up hill to the head. The carb is actually mounted lower than the ports on the head. So ill be getting an intake for it. Second is the issue of the cam. They are ground and installed for camshaft retard. I kinda thought the tune up spec for 14* BTC at 1400rpm was wierd, i guess theres my answer why the do that. Then the age old manifold issues of flowing like poo. All said and done i will probly need a good $1000 to get this awake. That is if i decide 320lb ft of torque isnt enough for me.

what size are the cylinder head chambers? theres a cheap way to get BIG compression from the caddy motors. find yourself some heads from a 68-70 472/500 and put them in place of your stock 425 heads. the 68-70 heads have 76cc chambers compared to the 120cc chambers of the other heads. just doing this will bring your static compression up to 12.0:1. now all that came straight from HOT ROD magazine. now they say as long as you can keep your stock cam specs and keep the engine speed below 5200rpms (out of valve float), there will be no piston to valve interphereance.

now that is just a cheap trick to get lots of compression from your motor.

my engine has 96cc chambers. But finding those heads would be kinda hard around here.

well the 80 is staying the way we all remeber it. rusted beat to hell and on big tires. But my 79 is the one thats getting the 425. But all of that is in my dads shop in Spokane so its not quite right around the corner. But are you running a stock LUV front end? I just whant to know if it will handle a big block.
