i tried searching the site, but there's not much that i saw as relevant.

i haven't ever swaped a motor before but i saw a post about how to get it smogged and i think i'll try...

i was hoping somebody has done this and could help me figure out how to mount the engine and trans. maybe give me a heads up on beefing up the cooling system and what related crap i'll need to get it done.

hmmmm........

i sent 4x4luv a pm..... let's see if he feels like offering some input.

i saw the pics after an hour.....(damn dial-up)...looks like he kept the stock radiator, plenty of room too. that's enough to convince me.

the truck shows up on the 20th it has a potentaly fatal oil leak, but runs like a champ in her little truck. so it will spend a few weeks on a stand getting a little tlc while i pick up a 5 spd to stick to it.

the truck arrived today..... man that oil leak is bad......i got a current smog certificate with it since she stoped in sacramento and got one.

time to track down a power steering set for this thing....looks like i could get away with making adapter plates to mount this thing, if i use an elect. fan.

i've been looking for headers for this engine and i can't find them.....

I have a 2.8l in my 85 blazer. I bought some shorty headers for it a while back but never used them. Let me know if you need pics, or any measurements from them.

while i'm sure the 2.8 will give a good amount of kick, i think a 3.1 or 3.4 out of a camaro(basically the same engine with more stroke and a better crank) would be a better swap

it might be a better swap, but i'm thinking I'd go with what I had on hand for now.. It'll be a nice upgrade powerwise...

well, since they're so close to the same, if you ever want to upgrade to the 3.1 or 3.4 it's a bolt-in swap.

gonna do any power upgrades on the 2.8? i'm curious to see how it does in a luv...i know edelbrock makes a performer 2bbl and 4bbl manifold, and there's cams availble. anyone know if there's roller tipped rockers or any nice valvetrain upgrades?

ditto..... i was wondering about those very same questions, but havn't seen em yet.

i'm looking at an intake for it right now....it's an offy for dual 38/38's, progressive linkage.

looking at cams for it too.......was thinking about using a towing cam, not totaly sure yet though the 1500-4000 cam looks good also. i have a parts catalouge that lists a stroke kit for $350(call for availability). and the cam for $125. i think those and a .30 overbore should get me what i want out of it.

i don't know too much about twisting this motor....i want some ooomph but i don't know about how much i can do till it tears itself apart. i've heard storys about people tweaking an engine out and then blowing bearings on the dyno so i think i'll be keeping it kinda mild.....150-160hp? i don't know the stock ratings but i don't think it's pushing more than 130 hp as is.........hmmm i bet bob knows what the stock hp and torque ratings are....how bout' it bob?

if it's carb'd and stock it is 110 hp/ 148 ft lbs torque, if it was a tbi motor 125/150.

There's some good performance info at this place. I read the Gen 3 top end swap and it mentions roller rockers coming stock on some Gen 3 engines.

i was looking at a summit racing catalog at work the other day and i think i saw roller tipped rockers(not full roller, just the tips) and 2 cam kits for it.

weber 38 carb would probably be a perfect size for this engine

started the swap today.......decided to drop in the good runner out of the blazer i just blew up tuesday.

i got the front end choped up yesterday for the radiator mounts and for elbow room.i'm striping the rear end (3.73 posi !!)out tonite and mounting it.... gonna pull both engines friday night and breaking out the welder saturday......i'm hoping i can get the engine running by sunday night and will worry bout a trans next week sometime.

i'll be posting a few pics of the prep work tonite sometime after the lady gets home.
