the chevy motor has the dist in the back of the motor, so you might not beabale to put the motor as for back as you would with a buick. the buick has the dist on the front of the motor, but the bellhousing is like the shape of and egg standing up, so youll have firewall clearance problems. id prolly go with the chevy v6 since the bellhousing ist so tall and you wont have to do alot of firewall mods.

If you could still get buick the kit to put the V6 in, I would say do it first, but I do not think they make a kit anymore.
With my buick V6 swap, all I had to do was knock the lip up about 3/4" on the tranny tunnel. There were no other mods done to the firewall, and I used the stock radiator.

In my opinion, I would say whatever was accessible. If you can find a Chevy V6 cheap, or a Buick V6 cheap. Do some price checking, and see how much you will have to spend on each engine.

Also, Do you plan to do alot of fabrication, or do you just want some more power with something that will fit?

If you plan on making the thing fast in the future, I suggest going ahead with the V8 swap.

I had Buick V-6 engines under the hood of my truck for over 18 years and i've never regretted building this setup. During that time, parts could be readily found for non computer controlled engines. But now, locating a correct distributor can set you back hundreds of dollars. If i were to do it all over now, I'd go with the Chevy 4.3 T.B.I. with all of the computer gear. A more modern transmission has overdrive and there's got to be a way to rig up the cruise control.
The sun is setting on the Buick V-6, The Chevy 4.3 is ripe for the picking.

Either way, a V-6 in a LUV is a great balance of power without alot of extra weight.
