Compared to a typical TH350, the 700R4 is gonna need a throttle cable attached to the carb. This is not a "kickdown" cable like on some early transmissions. It's a throttle position cable that HAS to be hooked up for the trans to work. I believe it's called a TV cable?

Other than that, you can get a non lockup converter if you want. I believe you have to remove a check ball in the input shaft of the trans if you go with a non lockup so check with a trans shop on that one. If you want a lockup converter, it's easy enough to connect.

I can't think of anything else that's an issue, other than getting them to stay together. Oh, and the common RPM flash between 2nd and 3rd that some of them seem to have.

the 700R4 aka 4L60 is 2" longer than a TH350 so you may have to redrill your trans adapter. yeah you will have to set up the TV cable and make sure its adjusted right or it will toast the trans. later model trannys are called 4L60E (E for Electronic) and do not have a TV cable but I believe you might have to buy a controller for it for a non ECM application. TCI and B&M both sell a lock-up control for like $50 I think. Stay away from the earlier model 700R4's (pre 86 i believe). they only had a 7 vein pump vs the later model 10 vein pump and they had a weak intermediate sprag as well as less splines (weaker) on the intput shaft.

I had a built 4L60/2800stall in my 93 Z28 LT1 with a 150 shot on it. It lasted a pretty long time with severe street racing abuse... but quite honestly, my stock 4L60 lasted longer. go figure.

700s are alright but yes the earlyones are weak. If you cn finda Kcase from an 85 or later truck. hese ones are alot stronger. alsoyou can get lost firmer shifts out of em by adjusting the TV cable tight. This will trick the tranny into thinking your alwaysflooring the gas so the clutches wont slip as much and thus will generate less heat. what ever you do whith the 700 get the biggest trany cooler you can get and mount it whith its ow electric fan. Heat is even more critical whith these almost all failures are directly tied to heat.
