Alrighty the LUV is going under the knife this weekend. One question about the swap though, im building it as a drag truck, this will be its sole perpose in life from now on. So i was thinking of running no cooling system and no alternator. I have heard of guys doing this before and my dads dragster is set up this way too. Is it a bad idea or no? I wont be running nitrous and i might run a blower so i dont think it will run much hotter than a normal motor, and this will give me alot more room for the distributor whithout firewall modification. Well thanks for the help.

The motor still needs to fit between the forward frame crossmember and the firewall. The stock harmonic balancer just clears the forward frame so if you add a blower belt and pulley, you have to mod something. Either wack away on the frame (which isn't a good idea) or work the firewall. Most opt for the firewall mods because you then might as well work it enough to set the motor farther back on the frame.
