If you take the the whole third member, just about anything Isuzu made up to about 87 will have the same basic rear end. The brakes/etc are different on some years, but the diff and such is the same. Ratios vary alot depending on the rig you donor from. Might look at
http://www.hotgemini.com and see what they can tell you about those as a possible donor. Being from a car I'd bet the ratio is a bit better for highway top speed/mileage driving.
Troopers (not sure the Aus name for them, MU or Jackaroo I think) pretty much all had 4.56 gearing, which is likely to be worse than what you have now. (At least in the US and prior to 87/88) Another option might be a 5spd trans from something, and I'd look at Holden Gemini stuff again given where you are. I think the shifter is setup a little different but the trans is the same and the shifter could be swapped over.
