Will using a trans cooler alone be enough to keep the trans from frying? I bought an aluminum radiator and never even thought about the trans cooler thats usualy in the radiator. Hope itll work.

My first truck had only a cooler. The one I have now I've got an electric fan for it. Didn't have any problems either way. I would say if you can't do it now, get a fan later when you can. Better safe than sorry...
one other thing, they make coolers that fit along the frame rails. Don't think it would be an easy task to mount a fan to it if you wanted to. Must be ok without ...

When I bought the truck, there was an electric fan in one of the spare parts boxes. I was trying to figure ouy where to mount a cooler big enough to use that fan, but theres no good place to mount a cooler that big on my truck. I did crawl under it last night and found a spot towards the front where itll have plenty of air flow and be above the frame.

Mine is mounted on the right inner side of the fender, between the fender and the firewall. Seems to work ok, but I don't like it there. I would like to eventually get a different cooler to mount on the frame rail under the truck.
I think it also depends on the stall converter as to how much heat the trans will generate. The higher the stall the hotter it will run. I have a 3000 stall and have not had a problem in normal driving, also a manual valve body.

As far as I know the converter is stock. I like the street rod/frame rail coolers Ive seen, but I cant see a good way of getting the lines to the opposite side withuot getting to close to the exhaust. I think Im going to just put it up front like I mentioned before.
