"Drop in" is kind of an understatement for the whole process. I did a SBC swap on my 81 LUV, and it took me 6 months, almost every weekend in that six months to get it to the point where it was drivable. Theres a fair bit of modifications you have to do...firewall, motor/tranny mounts, wiring, radiator, driveshaft, rear end (optional) etc. etc. etc. Plus if you want to do it "right" it takes some money as well. Aluminum radiator is a fairly big expense, and if your time is worth money to you it eats up a lot of that as well. Stock LUV rear ends don't hold up worth a crap behind a healthy SBC. (mines still running on it however..) Exhaust is a big challenge because of the torsion bars and the tranny take up a lot of room under the truck. All these things must be looked at.

If you have not already read the SBC engine swap article under the "Information" link on the homepage, do so, lots of good information on there. I am not saying it cannot be done by january, but it takes time. Good luck! :)

No you don't have to move the firewall. The most common mod to the firewall is just massaging the lip at the top of the trans tunnel right at the engine compartment. More or less just flattening it out.
I've had 2. One with the massage, one without. Luvnit didn't have to do anything to his either.
Just depends on where exactly you mount the motor.

I will NOT ship unless you are reasonable distance from me 8)

I will not consider shipping or delivering this engine that far away. :(
I would not make ANYthing off of it, and/or you would be in it soooooo deep that you would be better off to buy a NEW one there.

I wish ya the best of luck in your hunt. 8)

I think you could put it on a pallet and ship fed-x. Depending on the price of the motor and then shippin, it could still be a good deal.

If you're just looking to get the conversion done and stay cheap, try your local auto recycler and see what deals they have for a running combo in your budget. I recently got a '84 L69 305 and 700R4 out of a Trans Am for $900 complete and running great. Just an idea..
