 Post subject: stock ratios'
PostPosted: Wed Sep 01, 2004 7:51 pm
Hello all,
I am new to the forum (and damn glad I found it)....

I have a 79 4x4 LUV with a G200 engine in it (the stock G180 was shot when I bought the truck) and the rear end or pumpkin has been changed to a higher gear ratio. I get great mileage, but the 4wheel drive does not work very well with 2 different ratios....

My question is, what is the ratio of the stock gears, and in what Isuzu models can I find these gears, or whole pumpkin....
Not many LUVs in the salvage yards around here.....

Thanks,
Tim

I believe the ratio in the rear of a series 10 (79-80) manual tranny luv is 4.10. But it's been debated alot so I'm not positive.

I think someone said 4.56.

4.10 in all 4x4s is what I've always read, never tested it myself tho. If it has rear gears that are 4.56 those are stock to an Isuzu Trooper and an 86 Trooper would have 4.56 front and rear that should match the LUV diffs. 84 or 85 Troopers should be 4.56s but I only have the shop manual for an 86 so I dunno if they switch gears on them. Some 87s would fit the front, but some won't, and all 88s have different rear ends. The front diff in 88s is the same as the LUV rear, but don't count on the whole third member from a front fitting right in a rear as I don't know how well that works.

Isuzu pickups should have similar gears in the same years, though I've not seen many 4x4 Isuzu pickups around. You may want to check out http://www.independent4x.com and look at the FAQ link on the left. There is a wealth of Isuzu axle info there that should help. Basically just figure you have an Isuzu 10 bolt rear and 8 bolt front and that should get you looking for the right models.

Thanks for all the replys, I really need to get my truck on the road again....
Talk about bad luck, my IROC's fuel pump went out last Friday, and I break my driveshaft in my truck on Wednesday.....

Just hope my bike don't break down.....

Thanks again,
Tim
