Post subject: BBC in '76 Luv
PostPosted: Sat Aug 21, 2004 5:20 pm
I am about to purchase a 1976 Luv, truck is already setup for BBC & glide or turbo 400. I already have a 454 that am building into a 496 stroker. Truck still has stock rearend (yes it will go) was wanting to see if some of you guys out here have something like this? I already have a t400 roller ball bearing transmission built ready to go.

Yes the truck will be streetable, you guys prefer glide or t400? Ford 9" narrowed rear end?

Plans are for Lexan windows, glass hood, fenders & bumpers.

Nick

Have a friend over in Highlands that has a Luv with a 540 with 3 kits. He has driven the truck from highlands to the track. Have seen the truck run 7.71 @ 181 through exhaust, truck is inspected, insured and tagged.

See it on this site

http://www.hotrodgossip.com

It is the yellow one (not the yellow & primer one), he is the former #1 spot holder.

Who did his rearend for him, turned out nice?

Nick

Hey nick
Sounds like another bad ass luv in highlands ......woohoo ...lol
you defenitly need a ford 9" the stock rear will not hold up.As far as trans Im not sure ,some people say that a glide will keep you in the proper rpm range were as others say a t400 is the right direction. You might want to call Jimmy Airbie in baytown about the trans.

i have been in racing 20 years and find it really hard to swallow that a street driven luv went 7 70s ..it aint gonna happen....i know motors/rearends..etc......and via the exhaust.........lmao..why you guys make up stories i ll never know......don't argue with me i KNOW racing and speed and the horses and hooking to run a time like that. and you would have to hook about 1250/1300 hp to run like that,it would take .....full tube frame and fiberglass body.....or approx 2450 lbs no luv with a big block gonna weight that. i have a cut up luv that barely weighs a little less than that.post a pic i wanna see it......mines in here.....i got em all covered trust me.

The truck is owned by David Kosta of Highland Tx ,the truck is street driven"not alot" but never the less it has beenspotted cruising highlands and has made several 780 1/4 mile passes.Hell come to dtown and look David up if the price is right he might take you for a ride then go to the track and show you how fast it is.

For those of us that know David Kostka the truck is insured, registered and inspected. Yes the truck can drive on the street, Yes I have seen it run at HRP in the sevens (yes in the 1/4), yes I go to David's shop and eat lunch sometimes on Friday.

Now for the non-believers out there about this truck if you think you got something for the truck bring a hole lot of money and he will match race you!!!

Anyway Scott love you pic's and video. I called Alston today and they have a chassis including roll cage for about $1,000 plus frieight, don't have the money now but something I am thinking about (raiding my 401K LOL)

By the way think my truck could easily run 9's no problem and yes I will keep it street legal. :multi:

I with the help of a friend bavkhalved ourselfs,we installed a 2x3 box tube shaped sorta like a loop---|___|--- then moved the frame rails in 19" .I have only found glass hoods. They used to make glass fenders but they were flared out ..........like for baja racing.Ive still got it in pieces, the frame is done.Has 31x16.5x15 et streets on 15x12 rodlites.Still gathering a few parts.I will have to build a floor and firewall due to how far I set the engine back.I pretty sure my truck will run some mid to high nines.

daddyrabbit, I have not seen the truck in person but I have seen a video of a 7 sec pass. YES it did it and YES it is fast. what I have a hard time believing is that you have as much HP as you claim. I KNOW engines and to get that kinda power from a 383 you must have 18* or 14* heads on it and approx 13.5 to 1 or 14 to 1 compression. Just remember if you are truley from the OLD SCHOOL racing you should know there is always someone that can and WILL do the undoable. Hell we went 8.40 flat with a mustang and without wheelie bars. and yes it was on street tires 31x16.5-15 ET streets. I know this because they were my tires from my Luv truck. I will never blow smoke up anyones ass I dont have the money to go that fast but I WILL drive my truck to the track and run 12.50 and drive it home on 87 octain pump gas. ..... I think if you got all the power you say why dont you go out to HRP and put the money on the hood .... see if you double it or loose it. HELL for that matter come to Silver Dollar and jump on the orange LUV...but it will cost you bout 3000 to see if your fast enough

The truck has 4 wheel Wilwood disc brakes and he has parachutes. At Hrp there is plenty of shutdown.
