Do it yourself cheaper. I built the rear in my mustang with the following parts : Housing(already had), 35spline Mark Williams axles w/bearings,Mark Williams nodular center section,HD pinion bearing support,35 spline detroit locker, 4.30 gears, all misc bearings and bolt/studs. It cost me less than 2000 for the whole thing. You can do it for less if you use 31 spline stufff, and a posi vs. the locker, or cheaper yet with a spool. Find a good housing(or complete rear) out of the recycler or swap met. Have the axles and housing narrowed by Currie or similar.

Ask Ben what happens to resplined axles with horsepower and railroad tracks. Consider resplining if you must, but only as a temporary fix for when you can get custom axles made.

Yes, I advise against resplined axles.

I twisted the end off my axle within a couple months.

if you use a 28 spline axle to shorten it will twist off if you ues a 31 spline out of a linc 9 3/8 rear end they will hold up i was told they would hold up to 10sec cars .I run 1.75 60 ft low 12sec 1/4 mile and see no wear on mine

I went to a place here in San Diego called M.I.T (Mechanically Inclined Technicians) I bought the complete small bearing 9" out of a '71 Mercury Cougar for $150 out of the classifieds and took it down to MIT. They charged 150 to cut and weld the housing and 150 to cut and respline the axles (still 28 spline) . I bought a 3.70 posi out of the Recycler for $200 and put that in. This went under a LUV with mild 406 on nitrous. It hold up just fine. Its been under there for years now with no changes to even the stock trac-lock posi or gears. I'll probably go to aftermarket axles and gears after I put the trans brake in but its works just fine for now. Total cost = $650

Tom at Toms differentials has a bunch of S-10 rearends (7.5 inch) They are brand new complete with all the brake stuff too. Some have posi's with 3.73 gears. They cost under $500.These would be good replacements for anybody that doesnt have a strip only truck and doesnt have $2000 to put in there street truck.I am going to put one in my luv truck and see how it holds up to some good horsepower;about 600 hp.First without slicks than with 9 inch slicks. My opinion is they will hold up to street use without any problem and maybe a little track time but not full on race use (of course] We all know a Ford 9inch or 12 bolt is best, but this is for the small budget guys.

it`s a direct bolt in, use a camaro drive shaft i think 70 thru 81 all have the same length another direct bolt in.the turbo 350 yoke works with the power glide.

there is one other option the dana 60 is very-very strong and would
put a little more weight on the rear tires!
i would not use that powerglide first gear is very tall and you need lots
of converter to make work ! i would use ether the th350 for 3 speed or
the 700r4 for overdrive i feel its better to build it once and be happy
than two or three times
