My best advice to you would be to read the past posts on V-6 and V-8 swaps and then ask any questions you might have. Most of the questions you have have been answered many times over in this forum.
But just to let you know, with a 4x4 you'll most likely need to switch out the entire driveline. Lets say you want to do a V-8 swap. At the absolute BARE minimum you'll need the engine (350 V-8), trans (TH350), transfer case (lets say NP203), all new and possibly custom drive shafts. In addition theres all the wiring, and mount fabrication you need to go along with some firewall or crossmember mods depending on who you talk to. There are no kits and no adapters. There is no compatibility between your current trans/t-case and any V-8 engine. If you're changing one thing, you have to change everything.
