Some of you guys have put in a Ford 9 inch or similar. How much did you guys pay to have it shortened?
My dads got a Ford 29A Hot Rod. with a 53 Ford Flathead V8. We have 37 Ford Flathead, but its so so for holidng up to a V8. What type of Ford would you guys suggest looking for in a wrecking yard.

early 70's mustang or Torino big bearing rear ends are the best for high HP applications. best small bearing 9" are from a late 60's early 70's cougar. there are a lot of off road shops around so cal so the going rate around here to throw it on a jig and shorten the housing is about $150. cut and respline stock axles is about 150-200 at Currie. Price may vary due to geographic location.

I have been looking into this a lot lately, the housing is about 150, but most places do not shorten stock axles anymore, they just replace with new bigger units. To do it right is not cheap. I found one in the recycler, 9" narrowed by Currie w/31 spline axles, 54" width, perfect for a LUV; 300 bucks. I missed it by about 20 minutes, someone scored big time.
Otherwise, realistically, if you have a complete rearend and you do axles/labor to cut/new bearings/locker your lookiing at about 1000 bucks, thats to do it right and all new parts.

Does this Currie company have a website, if not a phone or mailing address?
We ended up finding a 55 T-bird, Dana 44 thats 51 inches width. No shorting involed.
