my clutch seems kinda hard to push down. its not really hard, just seems harder than any other car ive been in. its been like this since ive owned it. is it supposed to be kinda stiff? would that be why the pedal bracket brakes? if i sprayed WD40 down the cable, would that be bad for it? it could be just an old messed up cable.

I think it would be contribting to why your clutch pedal keeps breaking. I don't see any harm with spraying some Women's Division 40 down the clutch cable, it will help lubricate it up, and might fix the problem. Try that first. If it don't work then your clutch might be set awfuly tight, tighter then it should be. A clutch should not take too much effort to push in. But enough resistance there so that you can at least feel your pushing something. Im not sure how you set the clutch on these things, but im sure somebody here knows....

after you flush it with WD40 I would drop some oil down in it.

if your clutch linkage under the dash is bending it will also contribute to a hard pedal.

Check where the clutch cable goes through the firewall. There is an adjuster sleave there and I've seen cases where the sheetmetal on the firewall around the adjuster sleave had cracked and caused the adjuster sleave to become crooked thus wearing a groove in the sleave. I would unhook the cable from the clutch pedal, pull it through the firewall, point the end towrds the sky and dump all kinds of 30 weight oil down it. Let it soak overnight, re-install and try again. By removing the cable from the firewall this will give you a good view of the area around the adjuster sleave to see if it's cracked.

the luv clutch is going to be harder to push than alot of other vehicles since it has a mechanical clutch, hydraulic clutches are alot easier to push. my 85 pup has a clutch that is harder to push than the brakes, literally, i'm suprised it hasn't broke. they must have reinforced the braket a little better than the luvs. i found what the problem was on it. the cable housing split where it goes through the firewall and the cable is pinched in the housing.
